James E. Sullivan Memorial Award Criteria: The AAU James E. Sullivan Memorial Award was established in the memory of Past President James E. Sullivan. It is a trophy awarded annually to the outstanding amateur athlete not only for his athletic accomplishments, but also for how well he exemplifies the amateur creed. The first award was in 1930.
